If you already have an analogue CCTV solution in place and can’t justify taking out the cameras and upgrading cabling don’t worry; there are clever devices called ‘encoders’ which can be added to a traditional CCTV solution. With the existing cable you already have in place, it is possible to connect each of your existing cameras to it.

Encoders:

• Have built-in storage
• Offer intelligent video capabilities (movement detection and tamper detection)
• Can transform existing analogue CCTV solutions into new IP-based ones
• Allow you to enjoy the same functionality you would expect from an IP CCTV camera

The one thing the encoder cannot do is to produce a true HDTV picture when using an analogue camera. The image will only be as good as the lens and camera regardless of how much tweaking is done digitally.
