Dear Colleague,
The Communications Data Bill has just been published by the Government, but it’s worrying to note so many companies are still failing to heed security breach warnings – and that hackers dominate the headlines. Thankfully, the Information Commissioner’s new guide will assist SMEs in their security endeavours.
Maintaining the political theme, the Home Office is talking loud about targeting criminality. So, too, is the Labour Party, with a pledge from leader Ed Miliband about his candidates for Police and Crime Commissioner roles. Interesting to learn that ‘smarter policing’ is also a focus for European law enforcement chiefs just now.
Celebrations for Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee were quite spectacular and, it must be said, characterised by some top class security. We’re now well into event season, of course, and it’s encouraging to see the UKCMA building on its membership.
Speaking of events... The 2012 Olympic Games begin in a few weeks’ time and all eyes will be on the guarding companies involved.
It’s the first anniversary of MiTec, the superb Technology Centre run by MITIE Group plc’s Total Security Management business. Read Info4Security’s exclusive on-site report from Northern Ireland (and watch the video interviews).
Closing date for entries to this year’s Security Excellence Awards is Friday 6 July. There’s a new category aimed at security recruitment consultancies. You need to be in it to win it, so let us know about your company’s triumphs and business achievements.
Across the wider security business sector, there’s a new management structure at the NSI, the Association of Security Consultants is set to unveil the winners of the 2012 Imbert Prize, ASIS Europe has issued a Call for Papers for next year’s European Security Conference and the BSIA is heavily focused on improving data security disposal regimes in schools.
At UBM Live, we’re all delighted about the fantastic feedback you’ve given us on IFSEC International 2012. We’re equally delighted for The Inkerman Group’s CEO Gerald Moor, who has now begun his term of office as Master of The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.
On the careers front, in the year of 100 in 100 Part 2 it’s perhaps not surprising that there’s much interest around an independent review of apprenticeships being undertaken by former Dragons’ Den star Doug Richard. Watch this space!
Until next time
