PD6662:2010 Customer Notification Q&A(Issue 1 March 2012)
Dear Darren,
As you are aware the new PD6662:2010 regulations come into effect on 1st June 2012. ADI has been working closely with its supplier partners to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible for our customers. Over the coming weeks we intend to circulate more detailed information on compliant products and stock availability throughout our branch network.
What products are affected by the new legislation?
The scope currently covers Alarm Panels, Bell boxes, panic buttons and the inclusion of tamper switches to brackets when mounting detection devices.
How do the new regulations impact on the products that I currently purchase/install?
There will be some changes to the current grading of products that may have implications on your current purchases.
For all new installations or where a URN has been lost, products installed should comply too PD6662:2010. However you can still install existing products covered by the previous PD6662:2004 standard for the purpose of maintenance of existing installations.
How can I ensure I am purchasing the latest PD6662:2010 products?
This is being handled differently by each manufacturer. There will be some issue new part numbers, however the majority of manufacturers have taken the decision to apply a unique label to the product packaging to signify that the product is PD6662:2010 compliant.
When will you notify me of the changes to existing product grading?
In most instances manufactures have grading statements available for download on their websites. ADI will issue further communications regarding specific product grading as part of our ongoing marketing emails. Should you wish to receive our PD6662:2010 notifications electronically, please forward your contact details (Full name, Account Number, e-mail address) to info.uk@adiglobal.com to ensure you are receiving the most up to date information.
When will the compliant products be available through ADI?
The manufacturers are working closely with ADI to ensure complaint stock is available in line with the proposed launch date for the PD6662:2010. ADI are already taking deliveries of PD6662:2010 compliant products, which will be distributed via the hub site to branches in line with the proposed switch over date.
How do I maintain existing equipment in the field if the panels are no longer compliant?
Manufacturers will continue to produce existing products to facilitate maintenance of existing security installations after 1st June.
Will manufactures make all their products compliant?
Manufacturers may take the decision not to upgrade the product you currently purchase as it is not economical viable to do so, if this is the case we will recommend a comparable product from that manufacturer’s portfolio. Should the recommended product not meet your requirements we will liaise directly with the manufacturer on your behalf.
Who can I go to for advice on compliant products?
Should you require further information on compliant products we suggest that you contact either the manufacturer directly or alternative our Intruder Technical support for advice.
