The Local - Sweden's news in English

16th March 2012

Greetings!
Time for another look back at this week's news from Sweden.

Search and rescue crews were doing their best to battle bad weather in the mountains of northern Sweden in the search for a missing Norwegian military transport plane which disappeared from radar on Thursday afternoon.

As of writing, the Hercules C-130 had yet to be located in the desolate and windswept areas near Mt. Kebnekaise where rescuers suspect the plane and its crew of five Norwegian military officers may have gone down.

Be sure to keep an eye on the site for the latest developments.

New revelations also emerged this week related to Swedish arms sales to Saudi Arabia, including reports that a Swedish defence ministry employee used a personal Hotmail account to send emails containing confidential documents related to Sweden's negotiations with the Saudis.

Sweden was also consumed by a "scandal" of a different sort in the wake of last weekend's Melodifestivalen finals involving the initial outrage and subsequent feminist backlash related to women's hairy armpits.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for The Local's Word of the Week, and be sure to have a great weekend.
